The Three Cricket Formats and Major Tournaments

Bangladeshi fans love all three formats of cricket — but each format has its own characteristics when it comes to betting. bijli lets you bet on all three.

T20

This format lasts just 20 overs and is the fastest-paced. The match situation can change on every ball, so odds move quickly too. BPL and the T20 World Cup are played in this format.

ODI

Strategy plays a bigger role in 50-over ODI matches. The run rate and wicket count in the middle overs add a different edge to betting markets.

Test

In five-day Test cricket, a draw is a valid result. With three possible outcomes, the structure of the odds is different from ODI or T20.

Major Tournaments

BPL, IPL, T20 World Cup, ICC Champions Trophy — these are the tournaments that Bangladeshi cricket fans follow most closely.

Football and Other Sports — How They Differ from Cricket

Alongside cricket, you can also bet on football at bijli. The two sports have quite different betting structures. Football results are decided within 90 minutes, and a draw is a common outcome — so the match winner market always has three options (Team A wins, Team B wins, draw).

T20 and ODI cricket have no draw, so markets are split two ways. In Test cricket, three results are possible. This difference directly affects the value of the odds — in a three-outcome market, the odds for each result are naturally higher.

Football offers markets like goal line, Asian handicap and corner count. Cricket has over-by-over runs, wickets and partnership markets instead — which makes it distinct from a betting perspective.

bijli Sports Betting Football and Cricket Comparison

Cricket Betting

Two outcomes in T20 and ODI, three in Test. Over, wicket and individual performance markets add variety.

Football Betting

Always three outcomes (win, draw, loss). Goals and handicap markets are the most popular.

Other Sports

Betting markets are also available on tennis, badminton and e-sports. Each sport has its own market structure.

Popular Betting Markets and How They Work

Several markets are available for cricket betting at bijli. Here is a brief look at how each one works.

Market How It Works
Match Winner Bet on which of the two teams will win in a T20 or ODI match. Only bets on the winning team are paid out. The simplest market.
Toss Winner Bet on which team will win the coin toss. It has no connection to the match result, so the toss market is settled quickly.
Top Batsman Bet on which batsman will score the most runs for a given team — you do not need to consider the whole team's performance.
Total Runs Over/Under Bet on whether the total runs in an innings or the full match will be over or under a set number.
Multi Bet Combine selections from several matches into one bet. You win only if all selections are correct — one wrong selection loses the whole bet, but the potential return is much higher. See the odds section below for details.
Over of First Wicket Bet on which over the first wicket of an innings will fall in — this market depends on the opening batting performance.
Handicap Runs The bet is settled by giving one team a virtual run advantage or deficit. This market is used to make the odds more attractive when a weaker team faces a stronger one.

Understanding Decimal, Fractional and American Odds

Odds are written in three common formats. All three express the same information in different ways — two worked examples should make this clear.

The Same Odds in Three Formats

2.50 = 3/2 = +150

Say you bet on Team A to win with a ৳500 stake. Decimal 2.50 means you get back ৳1,250 if you win (৳750 profit + ৳500 original stake). Fractional 3/2 says the same thing as a fraction — ৳3 profit for every ৳2 staked. American +150 means ৳150 profit on a ৳100 stake. If you lose, the full ৳500 is gone.

Odds for the Favourite

1.25 = 1/4 = -400

If Team B is the favourite, their odds are much lower — for example 1.25. A ৳500 winning bet returns ৳625 (only ৳125 profit). American -400 means you need to stake ৳400 to win ৳100. The profit is smaller on a favourite, but the market generally considers them more likely to win.

Multi Bet Example: You make three selections across three matches, with odds of 1.40, 1.50 and 1.80 respectively. The combined odds are 1.40 × 1.50 × 1.80 = 3.78 (approximately). A ৳100 stake returns ৳378 if all three are correct. But if even one is wrong, you lose the full ৳100. Multi bets offer higher returns but also carry higher risk.

bijli Live In-Play Betting Wickets and Overs
Live

Live In-Play Betting — Bet While the Match is On

You can bet at bijli even after a match has started — this is called live or in-play betting. The odds change after every wicket, every big six and every boundary.

Say Team A has made a strong start — their odds of winning shorten, meaning they become a bigger favourite. But if a few wickets fall in quick succession, the odds shift fast and Team B's odds become more attractive.

In live betting, you have less time to decide. It helps to understand the markets before the match starts and to have a clear idea of which market makes sense to bet on in a given situation.

When a wicket falls the batting team's odds lengthen and the bowling team's odds shorten.
After the powerplay the over/under market is reassessed based on the run rate.
Last 5 overs if the target is close, live odds can shift significantly.
Rain break if DLS rules come into effect, the match winner market may be temporarily suspended.

Useful Tips for Cricket Betting

Betting is one form of entertainment — placing a bet does not guarantee a win. The tips below can help keep the experience more organised.

  • 1 Read the market carefully before placing a bet. Match winner and top batsman are evaluated differently.
  • 2 Set a fixed budget in advance and do not go beyond it. Follow the responsible gaming guidelines.
  • 3 In T20 and ODI matches, team strength, pitch conditions and weather can all affect market outcomes — know these before placing a bet.
  • 4 Adding more selections to a multi bet increases the potential return, but one wrong selection loses everything. Keep your selections limited after careful thought.
  • 5 Live betting requires quick decisions — it is better not to place large bets on impulse.
  • 6 Betting is for entertainment, not as a source of income. Chasing losses with bigger bets is not a good idea.

Cricket Betting FAQ

Common questions about cricket betting at bijli.

T20 matches produce results quickly and have a limited number of markets, so T20 betting is relatively straightforward for beginners. In ODIs, understanding the strategy in the middle overs makes many markets clearer. In Test cricket, three possible results (win/loss/draw) give the market a slightly different structure.

In live betting, the likely outcome of a match shifts after every ball, wicket and run. The betting platform updates odds in real time to reflect those changes. When a big wicket falls, the batting team's chances of winning drop, so their odds lengthen and the bowling team's odds shorten.

Both BPL and IPL are T20 format leagues, so the structure of betting markets is essentially the same. IPL features more international players, which can mean a wider variety of markets. BPL is naturally more familiar to Bangladeshi fans.

A multi bet combines selections from several matches or events into one bet. Adding more selections increases the combined odds, but also reduces the chance of all selections being correct. In a three-selection example, 1.40 × 1.50 × 1.80 = 3.78 odds — a ৳100 stake could return ৳378, but if even one selection is wrong you lose ৳100.

If a match is cancelled or left incomplete due to rain or weather, bets are settled according to the rules of each market. Generally, if the minimum required number of overs is not completed, the bet is voided and the stake is refunded. You can find the detailed rules on the terms and conditions page.
